Gorton Monastery Wedding Photography | Lizzie and Kyle
Gorton Monastery Wedding Photography
Wow! What a wedding this was! Before Lizzie and Kyle asked me to photograph their wedding I'd had Gorton Monastery wedding venue on my Manchester wedding photography bucket list for a while, so was over the moon when they asked me to capture the day for them!
Gorton Monastery is a stunning place for brides and grooms to tie the knot. The grand hall lined with cloister archways running along either side where the end of the hall is the abbey's alter overlooked by the most impressive stained glass windows!
I met Lizzie and her bridal party over at Hilton Hotel Beetham Tower in Deansgate in the morning. There was a definite buzz in the air as everyone was really excited, which was great for the photographs! Lizzie had the most amazing Pronovias Barcelona dress for the wedding (from Swarbricks Bridal) with the most elegant of trains. It suited the occasion and the monastery venue perfectly! The Flower Emporium arrived to drop off Lizzies' gorgeous bouquets for the day and made sure her bride tribe were all prepped and ready for the ceremony. Time seemed to fly in the morning and just like that it was time for Lizzie and her bridesmaids to make their way to the car for their chauffeured drive over to Gorton Monastery.
At the same time my photography partner for the day (Emma) met up with Kyle and the groomsmen at his house in Stockport for some great shots of the guys getting ready.
Abbey wedding ceremony
A touching part of the day were the moments spent with Lizzie and her dad. As Lizzie and her sister linked arms with her dad at the top of the aisle, I think you'd struggle to find a dry eye in the monastery! I live for moments like this as it's these completely natural documentary moments that I love to capture in wedding photography. Gorton Monastery houses the most amazing of ceremony rooms on a very grand scale. With the cloisters running down towards the end of this magnificent abbey, all in the middle of Manchester, where better to exchange your vows and wedding rings!
After the ceremony everybody made their way outside to the courtyard which seemed the best moment to capture everybody in the wedding party together. We then decided to have the guests throw confetti over the lucky newlyweds outside of the abbey, which was fun to document! After the confetti throwing we went for a little walk for Lizzie and Kyle where we managed to get some great portraits under the magnificent cloisters and archways outside of the scriptorium. We quickly found that Gorton Monastery has some great spots for couple portraits!
The Monastery Manchester
After portraits it was time for speeches before the meal! our bride and groom were introduced to the wedding party while they walked through into the main hall as all guests celebrated for the newly wedded couple. There were some great speeches during the evening, notably a very touching speech given by the father of the bride. Kyle's best man gave an amazing speech and had the wedding party up in arms (quite literally!). Once the speeches were delivered the bridal party and guests were presented with some much deserved wedding breakfast meals provided by the Monastery wedding team which went down really well!
Marie Antoinette Cakes
Once the bride and groom had finished their meals we decided to nip outside into the courtyard for a final couple of portrait shots with smoke grenades to complete our set. Before we knew it we were then back inside the hall as Lizzie and Kyle were to cut their wedding cake; but this wasn't just any wedding cake, this was a Great Gatsby inspired art deco styled wedding cake made by Marie Antoinette cakes!
Natural Documentary Photography
Once the cake had been cut it was time for the dance floor where Lizzie and Kyle danced to Al Green before going into a night of some classic Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen!
I had a pleasure documenting Lizzie and Kyle's Gorton Monastery wedding and can't wait to return for my next!
