Waterside Hotel Wedding Photography | Carla and Rob

Waterside Hotel Wedding Photography

Our photographer was the first thing we booked for our wedding and there was a reason why!

Stephen was such an amazing and modest photographer. From the pre-wedding shoot, the day itself and the photographs we were given, each part was effortlessly done.

The photographs were more than we could have asked for, and we are forever thankful to Stephen for capturing the day as well as he did.

I would highly recommend to book Stephen for your wedding photographer. He was amazing

Tuscany Wedding Photography | Nicola and Phill

Tuscany Wedding Photography

Earlier this year I flew out to Italy to join Nicola and Phill for their Tuscany wedding overlooking Lake Trasimeno. I landed the day before the wedding and met up with their families and friends over a BBQ meal in the afternoon; you could tell everybody was excited as plans were underway to have everything ready for their wedding the following day. Nic and Phil had hired an Italian villa for the week, one with a perfect view of Lake Trasimeno in the north of Umbria. The villa falls almost equidistant between Florence and Rome, and in between these two great cities lies some remarkable, breathtaking Tuscan scenery.
On the morning of the wedding the excitement was almost tangible. From early on in the morning the families were worked hard to have everything ready for the day ahead: The cake was prepped and creamed, the bouquets and flower arrangements were all looking beautiful, and the ceremony area was dressed and ready for the bride and groom to exchange their vows.

Nic and Phil's first kiss on the terrace of their Lake Trasimeno villa, watched on by Diane Rossi 'Blessings from Italy' Italian wedding celebrant.

Blessings From Italy - Destination Wedding Celebrants

'Blessings From Italy's wedding celebrant, Diane Rossi, married Nic on Phill on the villa's terrace overlooking a stunning landscape of Lake Trasimeno. The service itself was beautifully co-ordinated with special vows being spoken by bride and groom before wedding rings were exchanged.

The intimate ceremony came to a close with Nic and Phill's first kiss before hugs and celebrations commenced with their close family and friends at the villa.

Italy Destination Wedding Photography

Once the ceremony had come to a close, we went for a wander around the grounds to capture some gorgeous natural moments between the newlyweds. We had a truly amazing backdrop to look out on as the Tuscan hills rolled on into the distance.

The villa also featured a swimming pool was was great for a couple of relaxed bride and groom portraits as they strolled through the grounds. We were then treated to some incredible Italian cuisine courtesy of the venue's caterers who performed wonders in the kitchen.

Relaxed, Documentary Wedding Photography

After the meal we listened to some great speeches given by the groom along with the family around the table. Speeches allow for some candid natural moments to be captured. Limoncello was then next on the agenda for everybody as everybody took a shot! this then flowed nicely into the bride and grooms first dance on the terrace overlooking the rolling Tuscan Landscape as their families danced into the night.

A relaxed moment together. Nic and Phill take shelter from the storm clouds above.

Photographing in Tuscany

As a photographer in Tuscany, I found the landscapes simply breathtaking. Landing in Rome the day before the wedding, I hired a car and took the scenic 100 mile drive (approximately three hours) through the Italian countryside. This route took me through the Italian towns of Terni, Perugia and Assisi and was a joy to travel through. The scenery up towards the villa was ideal for my wide angle lens to capture. If I had more time in the area I would have loved to have explored more towards Cortona and Florence, which are now firmly on my bucket list for destination weddings!

Destination Wedding Photography

We are often asked by couples who love our style whether we can join them to photograph their destination wedding. We love travelling, we travel all over and would love to photograph your wedding abroad.

Quarry Bank Mill Wedding Photography | Lucy and Mitch

Quarry Bank Mill Wedding Photography

What a day we had for Lucy and Mitch's Quarry Bank Mill wedding! the weather gods were definitely on our side for their special day! We've been fortunate with weather for a few weddings this year, I feel I'll soon owe a debt to the weather man for some gorgeous weather this year!
Before today's wedding I had visited the old quarry bank cotton factory several times (mainly on school field trips and GCSE History assignments admittedly) so it was great to re-visit the old manufacturing plant once again to photograph Lucy and Mitch's big day in-and-amongst the industrial machinery!
I met Lucy at her home in Macclesfield where her bride tribe were all on the champagne as they had their make-up done in the kitchen. Lucy's wedding dress looked absolutely stunning even before she had it on, hung upstairs on the wardrobe. Before you knew it we were outside with the bridesmaids and vintage car ready to head over to the ceremony at St Albans church in Macclesfield.
The wedding ceremony was very intimate and lovely, the church was dressed up for it's easter festivities which looked great for wide angle lens photographs from the back of the procession.

Lucy and Mitch taking a stroll on the grounds of Quarry Bank Mill

Overall Lucy and Mitch's wedding had the lot:  a stunning bride making her entry down the aisle of St Albans, to vows being spoken, to rings being exchanged, confetti being tossed, colourful beautiful bouquets being held by the bridal party and all before heading over to the iconic industrial mill in Manchester for a fabulous reception.
Quarry Bank Mill has so many options when it comes to portraits. We had some great locations for our photos, using the front of the mill where Lucy and Mitch strolled by hand in hand which gave a lovely balance between wedding couple and industrial backdrop which
The speeches were quite a highlight on the day with Mitch's mum and Lucy's dad giving some great speeches before our groom received a speech full of dig and ribbing from his best man, all before an impromptu rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' given by Mitch's mum which was brilliant!
After Lucy and Mitch's feet were a little sore from all the dancing, we nipped outside for a long exposure portrait on the mill bridge lighting up the newlyweds with a flash from behind which looked stunning against the night sky.

Absolutely awesome wedding! I really can't wait for my next Quarry Bank Mill wedding!

Mitton Hall Wedding Photography | Rachel and David

Mitton Hall Wedding Photography

Mitton Hall Wedding Photography

We absolutely LOVED photographing Rachel and David's Mitton Hall wedding earlier this year. Having previously attended Mitton Hall wedding venue for The Wedding Industry Awards 2017 we knew we were in for a great day at this gorgeous Lancashire wedding venue.

I met up with Rachel and David for their pre-wedding shoot at Tarn Hows in the Lake District a couple of months before the big day. You could see the excitement build as we chatted about plans and ideas for their day. We had a great bunch of suppliers involved with their day including Typical Type and Fiona Lewis at Fizzy Fi Flowers who worked together to produce a stunning edison bulb hanging display which eloquently draped over the ceremony while the couple read their vows to one another.
Fizzy Fi Flowers also produced the most amazing bouquets on the day which complimented the bridesmaids dresses perfectly. Subtle hints of purple throughout the day from David's thistle pin-hole to Rachel's violet bracelet really worked.
Rachel looked stunning walking down the aisle in her Sincerity Bridal dress linking arms with her dad and a huge smile on her face as she walked slowly towards her groom. Before we knew it our newly wedded couple had exchanged rings and said their vows and were now happily married! We headed straight outside to celebrate with confetti throwing and some quick group shots in front of the hall before spending the rest of the day partying and celebrating!

Mitton Hall Weddings

We loved photographing Rachel and David's Mitton Hall wedding. The venue has absolutely everything from kind, attentive and friendly staff to stunning views from the rear balcony overlooking the gorgeous Lancashire landscape. We were treated to the most amazing sunset just after the speeches where we shot outside onto the balcony for a couple of gorgeous silhouette portraits before the sun set behind the valley.

We absolutely loved photographing our first wedding at Mitton Hall and can not wait to return! If you're looking to get married at Mitton Hall, why not drop us a message to chat about your plans?

Award Winning Wedding Photography | Stephen McGowan Photography

Soooo... we're rolling in to 2018 with another North West Wedding Photography Regional Finalist Award from 'The Wedding Industry Awards' which we are totally over the moon about! It's been a crazy couple of months over Christmas and New Year (mainly catching up with everything after a hectic wedding season!) so I'm a little late blogging this news, but hey ho! this is now our second Regional Finalist Award which makes it all the more special, and reassures me that the first time around wasn't such a 'one-off' fluke occurrance!

The Award Ceremony took place in November at the The Castlefield Rooms in Deansgate, Manchester. I don't think there is a more fitting location for all of the top wedding industry suppliers to get together than at a wedding venue slap bang in the middle of Manchester! The venue itself is incredible for weddings with a wide variety of locations for some amazing photographs - as I found out a couple of months earlier with Laura and Liam for their Castlefield Rooms wedding.

We've been overwhelmed by the kind words and praise for our work over the past 12 months from our very happy couples and it means so much to us. Thank you for your lovely votes, comments and honest feedback - it means so much! We're over the moon that you love your photographs as it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of your wedding days! So thanks again!

Here's a handful of our lovely comments and feedback given from our brides and grooms for our Wedding Industry Awards 2018 entry:

Elizabeth & David, Marquee Wedding

Stephen was superb from the moment we got in touch. He met us at a bar in Manchester and showed us his work and put us totally at ease. He was willing to listen to our ideas and guide us at the same time. During the day he definitley helped put me at ease and calm my nerves and he produced some beautiful photos that are a lifelong memory of the best day of my life. Everything about him was super professional.
— Elizabeth & David, Marquee Wedding
Absolutely fantastic photographers, they felt like guests at our wedding, and managed to get some fantastic shots without being at all intrusive. It was a genuine joy to have them attend, and the pictures they have given to us are fabulous. Their passion, creativity, experience and talent are obvious, and I have recommended them to several of my friends already!
— Meera & Manesh, Heaton House Farm
Amazing pictures by an amazing couple. They really captured the day beautifully and we have some outstanding photographs to look back on.
— Nicole & Liam, Willington Hall
Perfect photos. Lots of natural shots of the day that captured the moments brilliantly. Explained what we needed to do and kept it very calm. Stephen is very likable and easy to talk to so able to make all the guests feel easy about getting their photo taken. Met with Stephen before the wedding who put us both at ease and for him to find what type of photos we wanted on the day.
— Rachel & Matt, Park Hall Hotel

Amy & Lee, Vilamoura, Portugal

Stephens photos on our big day were exceptional, he did a fantastic job and was always very easy to deal with. I asked for very natural photos and he certainly delivered on that, and on the day he blended in well yet didn’t miss a beat with his photos. The wife and I could not have been happier with all aspects of Stephens photography but also his attitude and sheer attention to detail.
— Amy & Lee, Vilamoura, Portugal
Stephen was wonderful! He was very creative and inspiring with his ideas. He captured the whole day, every happy moment of us and our wedding party which he knew was so important to us! Stephen was professional but friendly. This allowed him to integrate closely with our guests and capture extra special moments (not just the big parts) to tell our story. Very thankful for him going above and beyond most would have done. You can tell he has a real passion for it that drives a natural perfection.
— Lucy & Rick, Didsbury House Hotel
Yes, our pictures are phenomenal but EVERYTHING Stephen did went above and beyond our expectations. From wading through a lake in his wellies to get a good bridge shot to staying far beyond the hours we had paid him for all to get the perfect dusk shot that we had mentioned in passing: nothing was too much trouble. Stephen clearly loves what he does and his shines through. He’s clearly not doing it for the money. Not only this but he is one of life’s good guys: a pleasure to spend the day with.
— Emma & Emily, Peak Edge Hotel
We loved having Stephen and Emma as part of our day. They helped us to feel so relaxed and captured some amazing shots of us and the venue. All our guests all commented on how relaxed they made them feel which really added to our day. Even before our first meeting Stephen had researched and was clearly excited to work at the venue and had an extraordinary eye for detail in shots. This showed in the final results and he even let us use a few ideas too!
— Claire & Adam, Statham Lodge

Juliette & Michael, Hiton Doubletree Chester

They captured our special day perfectly! ( Including getting great picture of the human pyramid of groom and groomsmen!). Love loving back on the photo slideshow as the pictures are so natural and exactly the style we were looking for, still amazed by our epic flares photo! Would recommend Stephen and Emma to all my friends and family.
— Juliette & Michael, Hilton Doubletree Chester
Stephen always goes the extra mile, as he hadn’t photographed at our wedding venue he met us there and discussed the best shots, which we defintely got.. We got exactly the variety of photos we were after. Stephen presented us with a slide show which meant we could relive the day and also a gorgeous print of our ceremony which was so special. The photos he took of our wedding were just perfect Stephen and Emma really captured our wedding day. I cannot recommend Stephen and Emma highly enough.
— Jen & Dan, Manchester Town Hall
Excellent photographer who was very friendly with everyone at the wedding. Also you hardly notice his presence at the wedding but captures so many memorable moments during day. Would definitely recommend.
— Katrina & Matt, Cragwood Country House
Emma and Stephen were fantastic throughout the whole day. They also got stuck into making sure everything flowed smoothly and were able to capture natural moments of our wedding day.
— Kayleigh & Adam, Rookery Hall

Rebecca & Mark, The Belle Epoque

Stephen was thoroughly professional, courteous and is a talented photographer. He was amazing throughout the day and organised an unruly crowd at times for some amazing photographs. I would most certainly recommend him for friends and family. I can’t thank him enough. He deserves recognition for his services and talent.
— Rebecca & Mark, The Belle Epoque
Stephen managed to “Capture the Moment” of the wedding, and his photographs brilliantly chronicled the happy day from start to finish. The slide show of pictures with an appropriate music was expertly put together and has been very well received by all our friends and family. As a mature couple, Stephen tailored his photographs to our unique requirements, and I can honestly say that all of the hundreds of photographs we received from Stephen of our wedding, were of the same very high standard.
— Barbara & David, Stanneylands Hotel
Despite me and my husband being very awkward and not very photogenic as soon as we met Stephen and Emma they put us at ease. The day is such a whirlwind that we felt like we didn’t take it all in. Stephen and Emma gave us 400 pictures of the day. All the pictures were more beautiful than We ever could have imagined. all the emotion, from the tears to the laughter were captured perfectly so we will be able to remember them forever. Everyone who has seen the photos has just said one word “wow”.
— Lizzie & Kyle, The Monastery
Absolutely amazing quality, communication skills, pre wedding shoot and listened to exactly what we wanted from our photos
— Liz & Nick, Ashfield House

Becky & John, Didsbury House Hotel

Stephen was absolutely perfect! He captured the day so we can relive it time and time again. He listened to what we wanted, natural pictures of everyone smiling and enjoying themselves, the album shows a lot of laughter and happiness which summed up our day perfectly!
— Becky & John, Didsbury House Hotel
Stephen was brilliant through out the whole process from our first meeting to delivery of the photos. He was fantastic on the day- relaxed and not at all intrusive. He captured some amazing images and really understood what we wanted.
— Anna & Johnny, Tipi Wedding
I was extremely impressed with Stephen’s work overall. The engagement shots were a great insight into how our wedding day images were going to turn out, and we were very excited to see them! On the big day Stephen took comprehensive shots of the whole day and presented them beautifully in a wooden display box with matching USB drive. Stephen is friendly and open/encouraging of our ideas and was more than happy to accommodate us in any way. I would highly recommend Stephen to anyone.

2017 - Stephen McGowan Photography | Manchester Wedding Photographer

Manchester Wedding Photographer

It's been quite a year!  - 2017 literally flew by...  Photographing one great wedding to the next, week by week, tends to speed up the year - which I definitely noticed this year. I had the privilege of shooting at some great wedding venues this year with a couple of venues being photographed for the first time, which always gets the creativity juices flowing!
With it now being the New Year, I'd like to look back on 2017 and select my favourite images of the year for you to have a look through. It's quite a balanced selection of preparation, ceremony, guests, portraits and partying shots which goes to show how great moments can be captured at any point during the day. I concentrate mainly on the moments on the day, the unposed documentary styled shots but I do also like a couple of staged portraits which are always nice additions to the wedding album and add a little variety to the collection.

An Incredible Year

2017 has been nothing short of incredible. I've had the pleasure of working with some of the most fun and relaxed couples and have captured some beautiful moments in the process. I've shot 30 weddings this year, travelled the country and taken in new wedding venues, photographed weddings in both Portugal and Spain, and also returned to some of my old favourites as well!
To cap off a brilliant year I was also shortlisted as a Regional Finalist for the 2018 Wedding Industry awards for the second year in a row which is a huge honour. There's some real photography competition in the North West, so it's amazing to be shortlisted alongside such great talent.

The Best Wedding Suppliers

I've absolutely loved working alongside some of the best wedding industry suppliers in the country. This year has seen me work side-by-side with some of the very best wedding industry suppliers around. From Florists to Make-Up-Artists, Event Teams to the best live DJs and Bands around, it's been an absolute pleasure to witness this talent up close. It's been great to work alongside leading industry friends who I avidly recommend to all of my brides and grooms and can assure that my couples won't be disappointed when going with my recommendations.

Thank You

On a personal note I want to say thank you firstly to all of my wonderful couples for choosing to have me photograph your wedding day and I'm equally delighted with the lovely feedback you've all given me this year. So a huge thank you to everybody I've had the pleasure of photographing this year. Also a big thanks to my partner and second-shooter Emma for everything; mainly for being my rock amongst many other attributes she has helped me with over the course of 2017.

If you thought 2017 was big, just wait until you hear what I have lined up for 2018!    I kick off the year at a couple of brand new venues (Mitton Hall and Quarry Bank Mill) before flying out to Italy for a Tuscany Wedding to kick off the season in style. I'm at some of the biggest wedding fairs in the North West again this year, so check out the Tatton Wedding Show in February and Brides Up North's Wedstival '18 in May.
I'm shooting at a variety of top wedding venues for 2018 and can not wait to get started! I'm sure it'll all fly by in a blur just as 2017 has!

If you like my style of photography, why not drop me a message

Belle Epoque Wedding Photography | Natalie and Karl

Belle Epoque Wedding Photography

Natalie and Karl tied the knot at The Belle Epoque in October and where we had an amazing day.I've had the pleasure of photographing several weddings at The Belle Epoque in Knutsford over the years and every one of them has been special in their own way. After shooting Charlotte and Daryl's Belle Epoque wedding earlier in the year I was very much looking forward to returning to this amazing wedding venue for Natalie and Karl's big day. Built in 1907 and located on King Street in the centre of Knutsford, the Belle Epoque is a truly one of a kind wedding venue. From the outside it looks a little bit like a very cool castle whilst on the inside it’s art nouveau interior gives it so much character.

Belle Epoque Wedding Venue in the heart of Knutsford

Natalie got ready at her house with her bridal party before making her way over to the Belle Epoque to meet Karl waiting nervously at the top of the aisle for his bride. The wedding ceremony itself was very intimate and dark giving a unique feel and character as the vows were spoken and wedding rings exchanged by our bride and groom. Once our newlyweds had said their "I do's" it was then off outside for a couple of portraits and group shots before all returning inside for the wedding drinks reception.

Alex Birtwell Wedding Entertainment

The speeches are always fun and great to capture with loads of natural, unposed moments taking place all the time. Natalie and Karl's Belle Epoque wedding was to be no different with a rollercoaster of emotions all captured on camera. It was then on to the evening's entertainment in the form of Alex Birtwell, wedding entertainer who performed the first dance song for our newly married couple on centre stage at The Belle Epoque. Alex and his band played out the first few acoustic songs to get the party in full swing and they totally smashed it! We had everybody up on the dance floor in no time. If you're looking for a wedding entertainer and certainly check out Alex and his band.

Evening portraits at The Belle Epoque

At the end of the night before packing up, I like to create a signature portrait of my couples which will set to 'WOW' friends and family. Fortunately it wasn't too cold outside for Natalie and Karl to pose underneath the archway overlooking the garden steps. I used a couple of smoke grenades and lighting with flash from behind to silhouette the bride and groom and create a breathtaking portrait for Natalie and Karl to cherish.

Stock Farm Wedding Photography | Stephen McGowan

Stock Farm Wedding Photography

I recently had the privilege of working with a great group of wedding industry supplier friends for a shoot at Stock Farm Wedding Barn in Cheshire which was pretty awesome!
Jacklyn over at the well known Precious Things Events Styling was setting up the shoot to promote the different seasons at the same wedding venue, so we had spring, summer, autumn and winter mini portrait sessions all in the space of a day! if anyone could pull this off it would be us!

The brilliant Stacy over at Love Lights the Way provided us with some lovely festoon lights along with the light up lettering and backdrops for our various themes. The work of Precious Things Events and Love Lights the Way completely transformed the barn into something completely special, which looked amazing for our autumn and winter shoots.

7th Heaven Bridalwear Congleton

Our bride for the day was Hatty from Boss Model Management, Manchester who looked absolutely stunning in the different seasonal wedding dresses provided by 7th Heaven Bridalwear in Congleton. I've worked with Helen and 7th Heaven Bridal on many occasions now and could not recommend her and the 7th Heaven team more highly; Helen genuinely cares about her brides and will go the extra mile every time to make sure her brides have the best possible day the can with their wedding dresses.
It was the first time I've had the chance to work with the amazing Gemma at Dollface make-up studio in Congleton. I've known Gemma for a while now but we seem to keep missing one another when it comes to weddings. Hopefully we'll get to work with each other more frequently in the future as her make-up work is gorgeous!

Our groom for the day was James who completely looked the part in his finely tailored suits provided by Stephen Muldoon Bespoke. Stephen has a keen eye for quality and style and a long history in the luxury menswear business where the quality really shines through in his bespoke suits.

Top Table Weddings and Events

We were graced with the full array of wedding industry suppliers for our shoot and no wedding would be complete without wedding breakfast caterers!
Top Table Weddings and Events are one of the top wedding caterers in the North West, serving some very well known, established wedding venues such as Sandhole Oak Barn, Styal Lodge and The Oak Tree of Peover to name a couple. It was great to photograph Top Table's seasonal canapés and to sample some of their amazing food!

On the subject of all things food; we wouldn't have a wedding without cake! Fortunately for us Rachel at Marie Antoinette Cakes provided us with an assortment of seasonal wedding cakes to photograph. A lot of planning and attention to detail goes into Rachel's cakes which I've experienced first hand working alongside Rachel for Lizzie and Kyle's wedding at Gorton Monastery where Rachel created an art deco masterpiece for their day.

To complete the supplier line up we also had Lisa from Inspired by Lisa providing us with wedding stationary and a bespoke table plan which complimented our seasonal shoot.

I think the only thing missing would have been confetti and the signing of a register (oh and maybe a couple of farm animals and random livestock) to make this an actual farm wedding!

Anyway without further ado, here's what we were all up to on the day for our Stock Farm Wedding:

Heaton House Farm Wedding Photography | Meera and Manesh

Heaton House Farm Wedding Photography

Meera and Manesh were married at Heaton House Farm, Cheshire earlier this year for what was a truly special day. I've had the privilege of photographing at Heaton House Farm on several occasions and it's a wedding venue I love returning to time and time again; however this would be my first Heaton House Farm Indian Wedding. My approach to photography is to capture all of the natural relaxed unposed moments throughout the day giving a genuine account of how the day plays out from start to finish. As a Manchester wedding photographer I'm geared up with lenses and camera bodies ready for the day to play out so that I can capture the memories.

Heaton House Farm is an award winning purpose run weddings and events venue in Cheshire whilst also doubling as an actual farm housing sheep, cows and other livestock. From a photographers perspective it's a great venue to capture some unique and lasting portraits. Features such as the old oak tree as well as the water garden make idyllic backdrops for photographs.

Asian Wedding Ceremony

I met Meera in the bridal suite lodge where she was getting ready for the day ahead. She was very chilled out and relaxed when I met up with her which would bode well for the rest of the day. The ceremony itself took place in Steeles Barn which was filled with Meera and Manesh's friends and family. Meera looked absolutely stunning as she walked down the aisle surrounded by her wedding party as she made her way up to the stage to be with her groom for their big reveal. I carefully documented everything taking place throughout the ceremony along with all of the moments and happy tears! I absolutely love photographing asian weddings as there's always so many moments throughout the day to capture, along with the vibrancy and colours which come along with the day as well.

Heaton House Farm Wedding

Once Meera and Manesh were officially married we were on to the water gardens for a quick set of couples portraits our newlyweds. The venue is gorgeous, nothing hasn’t been thought of, and every single member of the team can’t do enough to help.  They genuinely care about each and every bride and groom that celebrates their wedding there and they are so welcoming to all the suppliers that are lucky enough to work there too.
We made the most of the warm sunlight and whilst walking around the pond before heading over to the old oak tree (the signature Heaton House Farm tree) for a couple more. Once we'd finished I was walking inside where I turned back and spotted a 'connect-4' game sitting on the lawn. Our wedding couple were completely oblivious as I shot through the centre circle and nicely framed the tree with bride and groom!

The drinks reception was then held inside before everyone took a seat for the speeches, which were were amazing. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! and then after a couple of epic 'confetti cannon cake cutting' shots and a beautiful first dance, we were all up and partying (hard!) until the end of the night.

I had a wonderful time photographing Manesh and Meeras Heaton House Farm Wedding and absolutely can not wait to return to this beautiful venue again in the future.
